Excavation Backed by 10+ Years Building in Geelong
JCLC has been building landscapes, retaining walls and pools across Geelong, the Bellarine and the Surf Coast for more than 10 years. Excavation was always part of that work. We were digging site cuts, pool holes and drainage trenches for our own landscape construction projects long before we started taking excavation jobs on their own.
Coming at it from the landscaping side changes how we work on site. We plan where the machine tracks before it moves, we look after lawn and paving on the way in and out, and we leave the site clean when we wrap up.
Excavation Work We Take On
Most of what we do is the digging that has to happen before something else gets built, plus the awkward jobs a bigger machine cannot reach.
01. Site Cuts And Levelling
Cutting and levelling a pad for a shed, garage, studio, slab or deck. We set the level, cut it, and take the excess away.
02. Pool Excavation
We dig pool holes for pool construction projects across Geelong. If the access is tight and a larger machine cannot get to the backyard, we have the machine that can.
03. Trenching
Drainage, stormwater, plumbing, irrigation, electrical conduit and footing trenches. We carry a dedicated trenching bucket plus 300mm and 500mm buckets, so the trench comes out the width you’re after.
04. Post Hole And Pier Drilling
Augers in 300mm, 450mm and 600mm for fence posts, deck footings, pergola piers and retaining wall posts, drilled to the depth your job calls for.
05. Retaining Wall Footings
Digging and levelling the footing line for a new retaining wall, including cutting into a slope.
06. Concrete, Path And Driveway Removal
Breaking up and removing old concrete, pavers and paths, ready for whatever is going in next.
07. Rock And Hard Ground
We carry a ripper for compacted clay, hard fill and rock shelf, where a standard bucket isn’t always the right tool for the job.
08. Clearing And Spoil Removal
Stripping overgrown areas, removing old garden beds, and carting away soil, clay, rubble and green waste in the same visit.
Why We Offer Operated Excavation
Every excavation job we take on comes with an operator. We don't dry hire, and we won't lease the machine out on its own.
Part of that is practical. The machine is set up the way we like it and it stays that way, which means it turns up ready to work.
Mostly though, it’s because the digging is only half the job.
The part people underestimate is the pile of clay sitting on the driveway afterwards, and that’s the part we take care of.
We bring our own truck, load the spoil as we go, and take it with us.
So there’s no trailer to tow, no licence to sort out and no tip run to plan around. You tell us what needs digging and we handle the rest. If you are starting from scratch and want the full landscape designed before we break ground, we do that too.
The Machine And What It Fits Through
Access is the main question that decides if we’re the right excavator for the job.
Machine
Wacker Neuson EZ17, 1.7 tonne
Tail Swing
Zero tail swing, works flush against a wall or fence
Width, Tracks In
990mm
Width, Tracks Out
1,300mm
Maximum Dig Depth
2.5m
Buckets
300mm, 500mm, trenching, mud
Augers
300mm, 450mm, 600mm
Other Attachments
Ripper
Truck
5m³ tipper
With the tracks retracted the machine is 990mm wide, which gets it through most side gates and roller doors, and down most driveway easements. Zero tail swing means it can work hard up against a boundary fence or a house wall without the back end catching.
If you are not sure whether it will fit, send us a photo of the narrowest point and the measurements, then we will tell you straight away. It is a two-minute answer and it saves everyone a site visit.
How Excavation Hire Works
Step - 01
Tell Us About The Job

We Dig And Clean Up
We arrive with the buckets and attachments your job needs already on the truck, and the spoil and rubble leave in our tipper.

Frequently Asked Excavation Questions
Can I hire the excavator without an operator?
No, we don’t dry hire. The machine only goes out with one of our operators and our truck. If you’d rather run a digger yourself, a hire yard is the better option for you. What we offer is the whole job handled end to end, so once it’s booked it’s not something you need to think about again.
How much will my job cost?
It depends on the access, the ground, how much you need moved and where the spoil is going, which is why we quote on site rather than over the phone. Fill in the form for a free on-site quote and you will have a price to work with, most of the time on the spot.
Will the excavator fit through my side gate?
With the tracks retracted the machine is 990mm wide, which gets it through most side gates and roller doors. The quickest way to check is to run a tape over the tightest point on the way through, and if it measures under 990mm we won’t get in. Send us a photo and the measurement and we’ll confirm it the same day.
Do you take the dirt away?
Yes, and it’s the main reason people use us rather than hiring a machine. We bring our own tipper and take the spoil, clay, rubble or green waste with us. Tipping gets confirmed in your quote before we start, so there are no surprises at the end.
How deep can you dig?
2.5m is the maximum depth for the machine. That covers almost all residential drainage, footings, plumbing and pool work. If your job needs to go deeper, let us know and we’ll talk through the options.
Do you charge for travel?
We’re based in Geelong and cover greater Geelong, the Bellarine Peninsula and the Surf Coast. Travel is included within 20km of Mt Duneed. We’re happy to go further out than that, we will just confirm it with you in your quote.
Do I need to organise permits or Dial Before You Dig?
We can arrange Dial Before You Dig, and whether your job needs it comes down to the site. We will let you know when we quote. If it calls for a full service location, where the underground services get physically marked out on the ground, there may be an additional fee for that on top of your quote. Council permits for things like crossovers, asset protection or drainage connections are usually the property owner’s responsibility, and we will flag anything we think you need.
How much notice do you need?
Usually one to two weeks, and often less depending on how the week is looking. We run excavation work on weekends as well as weekdays, so we can generally find something that suits without you taking a day off work.
Are you insured?
Yes. We carry $20 million public liability, along with business insurance, vehicle insurance and WorkCover for our operators.
